5.3. The role of simulation models in assessing pesticide
environmental impact
The six methods which were reviewed all differ
with respect to the environmental categories they
consider and the weight they give to them. This
implies that each method supports a different definition
of the environmental impact of pesticides. Surprisingly,
none of the six papers explicitly formulates
a definition of pesticide environmental impact or
discusses its scientific foundation. Nor has any of the
six papers attempted to consider to what extent the
'pesticide impact score' it proposes corresponds to
the 'real' environmental impact of the pesticide.
