Matching requirement
Hearing protection of this type is often
considered the fi rst and only solution
where a noise risk exists – but it is not
as simple or reliable as it sounds. Many
employers do not choose hearing
protection which suits the attenuation
required for their workplace. It is not
enough simply to choose an exceptionally
powerful item of PPE if its eff ects far
exceed what is required, as noise equipment
which mitigates too much of
everyday sounds brings its own health
risks, and may cause workers to fail to
hear important sounds and signals like
fi re alarms.
