Amy I admire my mother because of the strength she possesses and her strong desire to be the best person she can to everyone. She is not a very well educated woman and had to quit school at 15 to help her Dad raise her siblings as her mother died when she was that age. She then moved to another city at age 16 and began living with some other relatives for a while. She met my father and married him so had to move once again as he was in the Navy. Dad died when I was 3 and so she became a young widow at age 27. She never did remarry but had lots of boyfriends who she could have, but said always that no man was going to get what she worked so hard for all her life. I was very sick at age 8 and almost died and she was there to love and support me through numerous surgeries etc. But like most teenagers I never realized how good a mother I had until I became a parent myself. She is now a grandmother to my three sons and a great grandmother to two great granddaughters. Next February this lady will be turning 80 years young and we are planning a big party for her, but going to leave it until the weather gets nicer and its easier for people to travel. I know that she will appreciate this party greatly and in my wife and my opinion she has certainly earned the right to be recognized on this special day.
