One survey studied this concept.1 Of those firms surveyed, 49 percent had adopted
ABC. When compared with nonadopting firms, it was found that adopting firms reported
a higher potential for distorted costs and a higher level of overhead when expressed
as a percentage of total production costs. Adopting firms also reported a greater
need or utility for accurate cost information for decision making
