Wireless sensor networks are useful tools which are
successfully applied in many areas such as industry,
healthcare, sports, emergency management and entertainment.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), chronic
diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are the
leading causes of death. The risk factors for diabetes (Type II)
and cardiovascular disease are e.g. unhealthy diet habits and
low level of physical activity. On the other hand, more and
more people care for wellness and want to be free from
disease (wellness e-health applications). Hence there is a need
for the delivery of easy-to-use, safe and not bothersome in use
systems to support management and monitoring of healthy
lifestyle. In general, such systems must provide: wireless
sensing of physiological data, e.g. glucose level, blood
pressure, heart rate; transmitting data through the Internet
worldwide; storing huge volumes of data; data processing and
support decision making
