Of 59 endophytic actinomycetes, were isolated from the roots of Zingiber officinale and Alpinia galanga, and tested against Candida albicans and phytopathogenic fungi, Colletotrichum musae and Fusarium oxysporum, ten produced substances that inhibited both phytopathogens and nine had activity against Candida albicans. The strain identified as Streptomyces aureofaciens CMUAc130 was the most effective in antifungal activity amongst those investigated. Moreover, the extracts of its ferment broth had activity against tested fungi at a concentration of 10 mg ml-1.
