The present study reveals that 1 L Keller juice can ferment and produce 12% V V1 of ethanol, the total alcohol yield in the stock from a hectare of land is in between 1.5 and 4.5 m3 , since the average plant number per hectare is 90,000. The total juice obtained is between 20.7 and 34.3 m3 ha1 . Smith and Buxton reported that 0.33 g g1 sugar was utilized during fermentation process and can produce 4.31 g L1 h1 ethanol [18]. Whereas in the present study ethanol yield of 0.48 g g1 sugar is obtained with Keller and CFTR 01 strains of S. Cerevisiae. In another study by Sipos et al. [2] where the stems were extracted for juice along with leaves, the ethanol production was from 0.42 to 0.45 g g1 of sugar and it is comparable to the ethanol production in this present study. It was also reported that the sweet sorghum juice had sufficient amount of nutrients
for cell growth and ethanol fermentation [18].
