Several design features were incorporated into this machine to allow additional scientific investigations and
advancements beyond what was possible with past CBT devices. For example, the length of the CBT processing
region can be extended using the ball screw as the gage length of the specimen increases. This will increase the total
possible elongation prior to failure. In addition, the roller assembly is stationary while the specimen traverses. This
will allow digital imagining correlation (DIC) to be used to measure the strain distribution through the thickness of
the specimen during CBT processing which has not be observed in the past. Finally, the machine was designed to
accommodate both strip and sheet specimens. This will allow further investigations regarding the CBT phenomenon
and possible process innovations
