Upon addition of sodium chloride to the
bath, the Cl− would distribute between the external and internal
solution so that the positive charges on the cationised cotton
are partially neutralized or shielded, reducing the ionic attraction
between cotton and pigment particles (Hao, Cai, & Wang, 2011).
