The use of pesticides and herbicides has become an integral part
of modern agricultural systems. Chlorpyrifos (CPF) and atrazine
(ATR) are the most widely used organophosphate insecticides
and triazine herbicides, respectively [1,2]. ATR and CPF are commonly
reported as contaminants of surface and ground water in
many countries [3–6]. In fact, agriculture runoff and irrigation
waters are the main sources of these contaminants to the aquatic
environment, where they subsequently deteriorate water quality
