This paper has explored the analytical utility of using the livelihood
and vulnerability index (LVI) developed by Hahn et al. (2009)
to understand local vulnerability to climate and environmental
change. In so doing, it makes two significant contributions to the
development of our understanding of vulnerability indicators.
First, it provides an assessment tool that can be tailored to the local
context of environmental vulnerability and policy analysis. Second,
it provides a systematic means by which researchers can compare
and contrast livelihood vulnerability in different socio-ecological
settings.
