The maximum exposed thickness of the Ga’ara Formation in the southern rim of the Ga’ara Depression near Tel Al-Afaif is _100 m (Tobia, 1983), but the total thickness of the formation including the subsurface counterpart may reach 770 m (Buday and Hak, 1980). The age of the formation is considered as Permo carboniferous by Ctyroky (1971) based on the study of the plant remains which are common, especially within the claystones that were deposited on lacustrine overbank conditions.
