Childhood poverty is a 0–1 indicator variable for whether the average of
the parent’s income when the child was aged 13 to 16 years was below the poverty threshold
for their family as determined by the US government. Three categories of the father’s and
mother’s education were identified: high school dropouts, high school graduates, and those
with at least some college.
