This paper reviews the literature on the social and economic impacts of Philippine labour
migration and remittances. Decades of promoting labour migration has attracted the attention of many scholars, prompting them to explore its many facets and implications. The objective of this paper is to pool together the scholars‘ findings on the causes and consequences of Philippine labour migration and remittances and to identify research gaps. It also provides a critical assessment of the reliability of findings.
The paper is organized as follows: the next section provides a survey of the social impact; this is followed by a section on the economic impact. The final section provides a summary and research gaps.
