Other effects : Hepatic necrosis, glycogen depletion and elevation of serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase activity caused by CCl4 or D-glucosamine in mice and rabbits were significantly reduced by intramuscular administration of 3.6 mg/kg of oxymatrine. Clinical use of the decoction and experiments on rabbits with the decoction, injection solution and matrine administered orally, subcutaneously, intravenously, intraperitoneally or intramuscularly revealed diuretic action and incremental effect on urinary sodium chloride. But the results are questionable because no mention was made of the daily water intake.
