A tertiary aim of this study was to examine differences in the different motivation types in maleversus female participants, low versus high educated patients,in first-episode versus multi-episode patients and in inpatients versus outpatients.Significant differences were observed between in-and outpatients, where outpatients experienced significantly more external and introjected regulations.A possible explanation for the difference in motivation could be situated in the environ ment of outpatients. It might be that outpatients experience more pressure from their family and friends to
be physically active while feeling guilty or ashamed when they do not comply with the sedemands.More research is needed to explore in detail these differences in identified and intrinsic regulation between in-and outpatients.
