Conclusions
We have shown that it is possible to build a fairly
functional robot using widely available parts and
standards. We have also shown that using existing
technologies such as SOAP and wireless LANs can
be a viable alternative to developing custom
interfaces and means of communication. By showing
that off the shelf components can be combined with
the Internet to create viable, wireless controlled, fully
programmable robots, we have created a new, simple,
inexpensive baseline architecture for robotic research
that may prove useful to the academic and industrial
research communities.
