This requires a new management style, characterised as a horizontal management style. Within this process the planning, organising, checking and coordinating is mainly done by autonomous units. With employees becoming better trained and more mature in the performance of their tasks, a manager must be able to create an atmosphere that encourages the change by developing, training, delegating and creating the necessary facilities. This is a strongly interactive role and requires managers to prove their leadership skills in order to promote better levels of communication with starff members. Research has shown that organisations today aredemanding a high level of ability from their staff. In assessing employee performance, managers use criteria such as responsibility, commitment and creativity. Employees are expected to complete their work and to be both loyal and disciplined in all their dealings.
