The original objective of this work was to produce and test a
questionnaire to measure wellness specifically in response to foods
and ingredients. It was necessary to first define and conceptualize
wellness prior to developing a questionnaire, which was a challenge
due to varying conceptualizations of wellness (Roscoe,
2009; Miller & Foster, 2010). Review of the literature indicated that
wellness is typically measured via self-report or self-assessment
questionnaires (see Roscoe, 2009), and a number of wellness questionnaires
were reviewed to provide guidance on the construct of
the questionnaire.
