The number of yeast colonies cultured at 37 °C in the stomach and distal small intestine was highest in the FLG group (Fig. 1). In the caecum and colon, although the values were also highest in the FLG group, the differences were only significant between the pigs fed the FLG and the FLF diets. The highest number of yeasts grown at 20 °C (what simulates the temperature in the liquid feed) was detected in the animals fed the FLG diet, the values being significantly different from the FLF-fed animals in the stomach and mid-colon.
