The overall total input costs were significantly lower for QGAP
adopters. The cost reduction resulted mainly from the
reduced fertiliser application. As we have had difficulties in
evaluating alternative sources of nutrients in terms of costs
and/or time to use or produce them, this result should be taken
with caution. Effective cost reduction will depend on the
alternative nutrient sources used by farmers and the opportunity
cost of labour, things that could not be considered in our
rapid adoption survey. More careful and detailed field observations
would be necessary to confirm this first result.
