Energy efficiency is very important environmental
issue today and it becomes one of the most important
criteria to design a motor drive for vertical transport. The
PMSM is most common type of motor selected in the
modern elevator drives because it has robust and simple
construction, very high efficiency factor, excellent torque
control at broad range of speeds, high power density and
low noise.
To achieve the traveling diagram suitable for passenger
and goods lifts, PMSM is driven energy converters with
intermediate DC link using an encoder or resolver as a
speed and position feedback.
As shown by the measurements, harmonics are
creating significant power component that increases the
total apparent power. This component is known as the
distortion power and generally is approximated to the
component of the current harmonics.
Presented in this paper are measurements of the
consumed power by a passenger lift in dynamic and
stationary regimes. In both regimes evident are
considerable current harmonics which should be
considered during designing of the equipment. In
stationary regimes the power consumption is much lower
with the harmonics component proportionally decreased.
