The percentage of households using fixed line internet in Vietnam is estimated at around 25-30 per cent, lower
than the average of 31 per cent found in developing countries, and the Asia-Pacific average of 36 per cent, the European average of 78 per cent, the American average of 57 per cent, and only higher than the African average, which indicates great growth potential. According to statistics from the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA), as of December 2014, there were more than 5.7 million fixed line internet subscribers, up 16 percent compared to the previous year, in which FTTH led the pack in terms of growth with a 189 per cent on-year increase. The consumer trend of transitioning to using fibre optic-based services is becoming clear due to increased bandwidth demand caused by the prevalence of bandwidth killers such as films (especially HD-quality movies), photos, storage services, etc. This consumer
trend has picked up as fibre optics implementation costs have become cheaper.
