One of the northeastern festivals which is popular among foreign tourists is the elephant show which is held annually in November in Surin province.
The show displays the talents and abilities of these huge animals.
At the beginning of the show, there is a colorful parade of all the elephants taking part, ranging from baby elephants only a few weeks old to the well-trained elephants with many decades of experience. After the parade, hundreds of elephants demonstrate their strength and intelligence in hauling logs, playing football and playing tug-of-war against human teams. Their talents and playfulness never fail to draw cheers from the spectators. Later,
there is a demonstration of an elephant round-up, in which mahouts
sitting on tame elephants show techniques used in the capture of wild elephants. The show concludes with a mock battle, which is a presentation of the ancient art of warfare on elephant back. Watching this spectacular show, visitors can't help but feel amazed at the elephants' incredible skills and intelligence.
