The physical fitness had increased, but varied a great deal among the employees; some had high and some had low aerobic capacity (≤ 32 ml/kg*min) which is said to be a lower limit for women in avoiding future illnesses [23]. Those who increased their aerobic capacity most during the intervention were the occupational group “school” and the occupational group “administrators”. Employees in “cleaning” and “care” had much lower physical capacity both in the beginning and at FOLLOW UP, and special attention in order to stimulate physical fitness activities is needed for these two occupational groups. In the study by Karlqvist [14] it was found that many women who worked in jobs with high physical demands and had low aerobic capacity reported poorer general health, worse psychological well-being and more musculoskeletal symptoms.
