People told me I was a moron for having done what I did. What Ryuuji—no, Midorikawa—and I agreed on a little while ago. Not that people know what the two of us agreed on. They just thought we went through one hell of a breakup or something, but the opposite happened, really. We both thought it better to just stop before we got in too deep. At least, that's what he said. Midorikawa had said that, but…whenever we talk he acts so coldly to me. I should be the one acting cold here! Not that I ever could, though.
Just last week he came home drunk. Well, Nagumo brought him home. Midorikawa was ranting about something. I couldn't follow what, though. Nagumo seemed in an awfully good mood then, though. Smirking at me like a moron. He had said, "Ryuuji is quite a party-goer, you know? Went completely crazy! Found a nice girl too." I had really wanted to slap Nagumo for that, but as the order stood then, I was the bad guy to everyone. The order still stands like that; everyone sides with Midorikawa. It's not like I mind it, but it makes me wonder what Midorikawa had told everyone about our breakup.
We had been dating for five years or so, but because Kira Industries is a huge business and Midorikawa is my secretary, it was better to keep it secret. However, it was getting harder and harder to do so. I loved Midorikawa, I really did, but when I actually admitted it Midorikawa was the one who freaked out. Midorikawa was the one who told me it was better to part now before we got in too deep. I reluctantly agreed.
You see here. I never wanted to break up with him, but the panicked look Midorikawa gave me when he asked—pleaded—if we could break up was what made my mouth say 'if you want to'.
I'm pathetic, I know. But there is nothing I can do about it now… Midorikawa has found a girl he's comfortable with. Nagumo found girl who can stand his personality as well as Suzuno. Suzuno found a girl that can be as chilly as him. Everyone is happy here.
Everyone except for me. At least, not yet.
"Kira-san? The documents are done."
Hiroto glanced up wearily, readjusting his glasses in the progress. The intern had placed a stack of papers neatly in front of him.
"Thank you," he muttered and picked up the first couple of papers, letting his eyes slide over the numbers.
"Kira-san?" the girl spoke up again.
"Hmm?" Hiroto hummed, not feeling particularly interested.
"Are you feeling well, sir?" she asked.
That earned her Hiroto's undivided attention. He glanced up, more or less just staring at her. He laid the papers back down on his desk and sat up. "Why do you ask?"
"Ah well, if I may say so, sir. You look horrible," she said, tilting her head slightly. "Of course, you don't have to tell me what's wrong. I'm just an intern after all, but I wouldn't mind listening if anything was troubling you, sir?"
Hiroto eyed her for a moment, weighing his options. He glanced at the papers before leaning back in his chair and sighing. "It's nothing much. I just got a lot on my plate."
"That's understandable, sir. It's no excuse, however, to skip on sleep. As the boss of such a prestige company you need to stay in excellent condition, is it not?"
Hiroto chuckled. "I suppose that's true. Thank you for your kind words."
"You're welcome, Kira-san," she said, glancing curiously at him. "Although, I don't think they were all that…kind?"
"You listened to me and you gave me advice. I see that as kind words." Hiroto smiled at her. "You should get back to work now, though."
"Of course, sir." She bowed. "Anyway, I'm sorry for my forwardness."
Hiroto shook his head and said, just before she exited his office, "Don't apologise for your personality."
"All right. Have a nice day, Kira-san.
