The sample should be a representative sample of the population of interest since a
predictive design was used. In order to achieve representation of the entire population to
be studied, the sample should be recruited by probability sampling methods. However,
given the limitation in terms of time and cost, this study used a non-probability sampling
strategy; in this study is a convenient sampling. Using this method, not every older adult
has the opportunity to be included in the study. Hence, convenience sampling limits
generalizability and affects the external validity of the study. The sample in this study
included older adults from 14 senior centers and one retirement community in Northeast,
Ohio. Any older adults who were interested in participating in the study were approached
and screened for inclusion and exclusion criteria.
