Red Flags
› Closely monitor for tachycardia in patients receiving vasopressor or inotropic therapy
› Pregnant patients may have atypical signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock and lose up to 1500 mL of blood, without a change in blood pressure (Strickler, 2010)
› Pediatric patients may lose more than 25% blood volume and not exhibit typical signs/symptoms of hypovolemic shock (Strickler, 2010)
› Hemorrhage must be ruled out as the cause of hypovolemic shock in all trauma patients with hypotension
