Short introduction
The objective of the Master of Science(M.Sc.) program in Occupational Medicine is to prepare students for careers in teaching and research in occupational medicine in a variety of settings (e.g., academia, government, industry). The program is designed for individuals who are prepared to conduct research and design appropriate interventions for health problems related to workplace. Completing this program is also the requirement for physicians enrolling in the Occupational Medicine residency training program at the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Chulalongkorn University Medical School. Candidates for the M.Sc. degree are expected to develop the ability to express research ideas verbally and in writing, and to develop skills in critical reading, discussion, and evaluation of the literature. The subject matter of this research should reflect the interest of the program faculty and serve to expand the knowledge base concerning the etiology, diagnosis and prevention of human diseases of occupational origin. Major areas of the program include principles and methods in occupational health; clinical occupational medicine; occupational toxicology; occupational health practice; and epidemiology and biostatistics. In addition to core requirements for the degree programs, students may select electives in such areas as health policy and management, health economics, and health promotion. It normally takes two academic years to complete the program. However, those with physician background may complete the program within one academic year.
