Brazil-Five Ribeiro Preto mills to shut early
At least five cane mills in the Sao Paulo state region of Ribeiro Preto are expected to end crushing early this season because of a lack of cane, Folha de Sao Paulo reports. This resulted from the prolonged drought, particularly in the months of January and February, which prevented normal cane development. One of the mills closing early is the Sao Francisco in Sertaozinho, which will shut on October 20th compared with November 29th last year. The Guaruja plant intends to close in late October instead of the second half of November and the Santa Adelia mill in Jaboticabal at the end of November rather than the second week of December.
