As seen in fig 3, this final model suggests that participants who completed the questionnaires online were more likely to report avoidant coping. Avoidant coping was positively related to expectations of increased confidence, tension reduction and negative expectancies In addition, avoidant coping was positively related to enhancement and coping motives for drinking. Negative expectancies were not related to drinking motives, but hat a direct relationship with drinking behaviour. Expectations of increased confidence and tension reduction were related to each of the drinking motives, while expectations of sexual enhancement were only related to coping motives. As expected , each of the drinking motives was positively associated with drinking behaviour.
