1984: On October 5, 1984, Virginia school nurses met during the Virginia Department of Education sponsored conference for school health services. The school nurses decided to form their own organization. A steering committee of school nurses met on December 4th at the Imperial 400 Motor Inn in Richmond to organize the Virginia Association of School Nurses (VASN). Bylaws were adopted. Officers were elected with Betty Barr as President. The Virginia Association of School Nurses voted to become and has remained an affiliate of the National Association of School Nurses, Inc. (NASN).
