As noted in the opening section of this chapter, an assessment of the professional team sports market is important as its contribution to sport in the UK from both social and economic standpoints is substantial. The chapter has focused on a series of issue drawn from the Premier League and the Football League and, while these league have been the subject of the chapter’s inquiry, the learning points are equally valid for other professional sport leagues in the UK and further afield. Although the impact of broadcasting on English football has formed a significant part of the chapter’s analysis, similar impacts of broadcastings on league sports like rugby league can also be analysed. For example, rugby league was traditionally a winter sport in England. However, structural reforms as well as the lure of revenue from broadcasting saw the sport move from the winter mounts to those of summer
