In sum, this study highlights that attitudes regarding roles in bullying
are influenced by moral disengagement as well as by perceptions of normative
beliefs of the peer group. This has important theoretical and practical
implications. Theoretically, it contributes to the knowledge that most of the
factors contribute to attitudes in bullying. In practical terms it helps to
identify the variables for which prevention programs should focus on,
namely the decrease in moral disengagement and the promotion of group
norms for the victims’ defenders role or the bully roles. We hope our reflections
and results can be taken into account in the assessment as well as in
the design of bullying prevention programs.
