In resource-limited settings, rapid administration of appropriate antibiotics is a cornerstone to sepsis care and has a time sensitive effect on mortality. Antibiotics should be started as soon as possible (ideally within the first hour of the recognition of sepsis). Important patient characteristics include recent use of antibiotics and healthcare exposure. Local or regional anti- biotic guidelines are preferred and should be used to choose the most appropriate agent. Consider the addition of an antiviral agent in select cases.
