Pot experimentsandlaboratoryanalysiswereusedtoinvestigatethetransformationandbioavailability
of additionalCuandSeforpakchoi(Brassicachinensis) inco-contaminatedsoil.Intheuncontaminated
soil, Cumainlyexistedinresidualform,whereasSewaspresentinresidualformandinelementaland
organic-sulfide matter-boundform.Inthecontaminatedsoil,CumainlyboundtoFe–Mn oxidates,
whereas Sewasinexchangeableandcarbonatesforms.Afteramonthofpakchoigrowth,Cutendedto
transfer intoorganicmatter-boundfractions,whereasSetendedtoboundtoFe–Mn oxidates.The IR
(reduced partitionindex)valueofCudecreasedastheconcentrationsofCuandSegraduallyincreased,
whereas the IR valueofSedecreasedastheconcentrationofSeincreased.The IR valuebeforepakchoi
planting andafteritwasharvestedwasnotaffectedbytheconcentrationofexogenousCu.Soilurease
and nitratereductaseactivitieswereinhibitedbyCuandSepollutioneitherindividuallyorcombinedin
different degrees,followingtheordernitratereductase4urease. Thesignificant correlationbetweenthe
IR valueandsoilenzymeactivitiessuggeststhatthisvaluecouldbeusedtoevaluatethebioavailabilityof
heavymetalsinsoil.PathanalysisshowedthatthevariationsinexchangeableCuandorganic-sulfide
matter-boundandelementalSehaddirecteffectsontheactivitiesofthetwoenzymes,suggestingtheir
