Tesar et al. (2002) isolated five bacterial species from the rhizosphere of plants with potential for remediation of diesel fuel. Simpson’s reciprocal(1=D) and Shannon-Weaver (H) indices were higher in our study and Tesar’s work, than the work of others. The Shannon-Weaver index is a general diversity index that is sensitive both to species richness and to relative species abundance (Atlas and Bartha, 1998). Evenness (E) and equitability (J)indicate that there are similar proportions of all
species in our work and those of Tesar and coworkers, and a dominant species among the isolates of Cavalca et al. (2000) study.
