Fredrickson (2004) introduced the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions,
the core suggestion of which is that individuals are encouraged to
cultivate positive emotions in themselves and in their relationships in order to
achieve psychological growth and well-being over time. The TTC proposes
that self-actualization, flow, and peak experiences during creative pursuit
denote a synchronisation of challenges and resources, promoting positive
emotions in itself, and much more so when engaged in as spiritual practice,
where the creative process serves as a means of expressing spirituality.
Medical studies have found abundant evidence that faith, prayer, and spiritual
rituals can strengthen health and healing by triggering emotions that influence
physiological systems.
