Pre-service teachers indicated that their ability to
access SMK had developed as a result of their ITE
courses (11/12). When participants were asked which
aspects of the ITE course supported their ability to
access new SMK, they referred to teaching resources
distributed by lecturers (5), experiments/class activities
(5), ideas presented in tutorials, websites, and sharing
ideas with peers (2 each). Teachers were asked not to
include SMK derived from previous academic study.
Following two years of practice, confidence in their own
SMK rose from a mode of 4 with no teachers reporting
6 (very confident), to a mode of 5.5 with 40% reporting
6 on the Likert scale (see Table 3).
