Cardiovascular disease (CVD) refers to the class of conditions
involving the heart or blood vessels (Cecil et al. 2000) and is
a cause of burden in both developed and developing countries
(Reddy & Yusuf 1998). The major manifestations of CVD
are coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and peripheral
arterial disease. These conditions share common risk factors
