The treatment methods are similar. For sandy soil, dry soil, hard-pan soil and laterite soil, suggested methods involve
1. Building reservoirs, dams and water retention areas to store water for use or building them at intervals to render humidity to the trees and the soil
2. Planting more trees including the vetiver grass in different patterns to hold the soil or to prevent soil erosion and to increase soil moisture
3. Improving the soil quality by using compost and green manure
4. For acidic soil and peat soil, the method is known as soil acidity aggravation and amelioration, which is a process of accelerating chemical substances in the soil that contains sulphur or pyrite substance by alternately making the soil wet and dry until the soil become so acidic that plants can no longer grow there. Then the ways of eliminating soil acidity are applied; for example, washing the soil with water, using lime dust, controlling the underground water level etc.
5. For salty soil, the method is to use the irrigation system to wash away the salt that is left on the ground surface and in the area close to the stream so that the salty water in the stream will be diluted for further use.
