skills typically taught in CBT include identifying and modifying negative patterns of thinking, developing problem-solving skills, mastering relaxation and deep breathing, learning to pair feared situations with calm feelings instead of anxious feelings, improving social interactions, and improving parent-child interactions. A great deal of research supports the use of CBT with children, adolescents, and young adults. For youth with mild-to-moderate symptoms, CBT alone can result in significant improvement, and for youth with more severe symptoms, CBT in conjunction with medication can lead to a significant reduction in symptoms and improvements in functioning.
