The idea that all or even most firms will link together to form highly collaborative end to end supply chain initiatives at any time in the foreseeable future is quite unlikely the dynamics of a free competitive market system will serve to harness such and end state. However, initiatives aimed at cross enterprise integration along the supply chain are increasingly occurring and, to the extent successfully implemented, offer new and exciting business models for gaining competitive advantage. Once achieved, such supply chain integration is hard to maintain and is subject to continuous redefinition. What works today may not work tomorrow, Conversely, what won't work today may work tomorrow.
