CHON BURI — An elderly Frenchman died after his motorcycle was struck by a car in Bang Lamung on Sunday.
The 67-year-old Frenchman, whose name has not yet been released, was riding a Honda Click on Sukhumvit Road in tambon Nong Prue heading into Pattaya in the morning when a Toyota Soluna driven by 39-year-old Anek Pokaew , an employee at Makro superstore's southern Pattaya branch, hit him, killing him instantly, Khaosod newspaper's website reported.
Pol Lt Col Chalermkiat Sirimark, an investigator at Muang Pattaya police station, said the Phitsanulok native claimed he left Makro and was driving home in the farthest right lane to make a U-turn at Thepprasit intersection when the motorcyclist cut him off, leaving him no chance to stop in time.
The car dragged the elderly Frenchman and his motorcycle for another 50 metres after the crash.
Pol Lt Col Chalermkiat said he had questions about Mr Anek’s statement and would hold him for further inquiries, as well as question witnesses to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Police would inform the French embassy to contact the deceased’s family.
