There is currently no specific legislation focusing on air quality management in Myanmar.
Nonetheless, there are existing legislations at the national and local levels which contain
provisions directly related to air pollution control. Information for these laws is provided
below. Some implementation arrangements have not yet been specified and as such, level
of enforcement for these regulations is not clear. The difficulty in implementing these laws is
due to the lack of necessary adequate administrative and legal structures, standards,
safeguards, and political will to enforce such provisions (BEWG, 2011). Moreover, while
Myanmar participates in international dialogues and treaties, it has yet to incorporate the
provisions contained in these agreements into domestic law (BEWG, 2011).
