Finally, four pharmaceutical compounds were tested to be removed with TRF. The first of them was Trimethoprim, which presented a significative percentage removal of up to 65%. This is a cationic antibiotic. Regarding the rest of compounds, parabens presented a percentage removal that raised up as the molecular weight increases. The most removable paraben was butylparaben,with a removal efficiency of ca. 78%. On the other hand, methyl-paraben was only removable in ca. 20%. These organic moleculesare not significantly charged, so the adsorption took place by chemisorption onto active centers in the surface of the TRF.
