Students want director out
More than 1,000 students of Navamindarajudis Payap School in Chiang Mai's Mae Rim district rallied in front of Chiang Mai's Government Centre building on February 17 to call for the school director's transfer for allegedly using rude words and collecting extra money from parents.
The students demanded the transfer of Nikhom Sinthuphong and the setting up of a panel to look into his alleged misconduct. However, local education official Manop Dimi decided to transfer him to an inactive post and set up a committee to investigate the students' claims.

Gambling sites discovered
The Department of Special Investigation has discovered seven major gambling websites that operate in Thai language.
DSI chief Tarit Pengdith said the websites were registered overseas, making it hard to suppress them. The transfer of gambling money is done through commercial local banks, Tarit said, adding that the websites generate a huge amount of money.
A DSI source said seeking to close the sites is not always possible because online gambling is not illegal in some of the countries where the sites are registered.
