Four-hour pulsing (average of 0.2 to 0.4 g sucrose absorbed per spike) had no advantageous effects on extending the vase life (data not shown). Pulsing for 20 h (1.3 to 2.1 g sucrose absorbed per spike) extended the vase life of spikes comparably to those placed continuously in 2.5% or 5% sucrose solutions (Table 1).
