Previously, sodium carbonate pretreatment in a reactor at hightemperatures for different time intervals was investigated by Salehiet al. (2012). They showed that the hydrolysis yield can be improvedup to 97% by sodium carbonate pretreatment at 180◦C. Via a SSFprocess, S. cerevisiae was used and the maximum ethanol yieldof 77.2% was achieved. In the current study, pretreatment withsodium carbonate at optimum conditions was succeeded to convertall glucan to glucose in the enzymatic hydrolysis and also improvedthe ethanol production to 83%. Therefore, compared with the previ-ous research (Salehi et al., 2012), high yields of glucose and ethanolproduction can be reached by the pretreatment at mild conditions.The concentration of produced glycerol is presented in Table 2.
