The influence of time on the extraction yield for the maceration and Soxhlet techniques is shown in Fig. 1. Both presented maximum extraction at 180 min, although Soxhlet obtained a higher amount of extract than maceration (12 ± 0.4% vs. 8.7 ± 0.3%, respectively). This result can be explained by the different temperatures
used in both processes: Soxhlet works at higher temperature (82 ◦C) because it is necessary to boil the solvent. Raising the temperature contributes to increase process efficiency since the saturation equilibrium constant is displaced, favoring extraction (Sharapin,
2000).
